It Takes A Village to Raise a Child
Now let me explain the purpose of the GDA in simple terms. That is what this page is all about. Even though the Association was established to help with the development programs in the Gbehlay area, it also wants to fulfill these other goals. The people of Gbehlay district want to celebrate one another to the fullest. When a child is born in the community, they want to welcome that child to the community. A birth of a child is a community event, because the child is not for one or two persons; a child belongs to the community and the community also belongs to the child. Some people usually quote the African Proverb that says: "It takes the entire village to raise a child."
When some of our members are pregnant, we suggest that they get in touch with the GDA administration so that the appropriate contacts can be made for the administration to stay in contact until the child is born. In that way, announcements can be made for all the members of our community to be a part of the celebration, because the child belongs to all of us. All of us ought to assume the responsibility in nurturing the child, educating him or her and making sure that the child is properly welcomed into our community.
It is these children that will replenish our society as the older generation gives way for succeeding generations. Children come to take our places in society. That is the purpose for community living and for procreation.
